Prof. Jorge Chau is a distinguished figure in atmospheric physics, serving as a Professor at the University of Rostock and leading the Radar Remote Sensing department at the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) in Kühlungsborn, Germany. He earned his M.Sc. in 1995 and Ph.D. in 1998 in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA.

With a productive career spanning over two decades, Prof. Chau has held pivotal roles in advancing scientific understanding and technological innovation. Notably, from 2001 to 2012, he served as the Director of the Jicamarca Radio Observatory in Lima, Peru, where he made significant contributions to the radio science techniques, aeronomy, meteor studies. In 2013, Prof. Chau joined the radar remote sensing team at IAP, where his research has propelled the boundaries of radar and radio studies in the neutral upper atmosphere and
ionosphere.

His expertise encompasses a diverse array of topics, including the development of cutting-edge radar imaging techniques for 2D and 3D atmospheric/ionospheric applications, pioneering wind field determinations with novel multistatic specular meteor radars, and conducting radar studies on non-specular meteor trails and high latitude E region irregularities.

Prof. Chau's work extends beyond individual disciplines, encompassing atmospheric and ionospheric coupling studies that illuminate the intricate interplay between these crucial layers of our atmosphere. His dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and technological innovation continues to inspire and shape the future of atmospheric physics.
