Prof. Koen Martens is Head of Research of the Royal Belgian Institute of natural Sciences (Brussels, Belgium), guest professor at the University of Ghent (Belgium) and invited professor at the University of Maringa (Brazil). His research interests are in aquatic ecology and evolutionary biology,

Ostracoda (Crustacea).

Godelieve Gheysen (PhD in Sciences) is full time professor at the Faculty of BioScience Engineering at Ghent University, where she heads the Department of Biotechnology and she also is director of International Plant Biotechnology Outreach. Her expertise is plant molecular biology and biotechnology, including science communication to the public. Her research focuses on the molecular analysis of interactions between plants and pathogens and the use of molecular breeding and biotechnology to improve plant resistance to biotic stress. G. Gheysen has an h-index of 44, with 164 a1 publications.

La Dra. Fabiola León-Velarde Servetto es bióloga y doctora en Ciencias (Fisiología) por la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). Se desempeñó como profesora principal del Departamento de Ciencias Biológicas y Fisiológicas de la Facultad de Ciencias de la UPCH desde el año 1981. Entre 1995, y en el 2002 fue Investigadora Asociada en la Universidad de Paris XIII. También ha sido Fellow de Queen’s College de la Universidad de Oxford, donde participó en proyectos de investigación en el Laboratorio de Fisiología de la Respiración.
Tiene una extensa producción científica en fisiología de adaptación a la altura con más de 170 títulos en revistas internacionales indexadas, así como varios libros y artículos de su especialidad. Es co-autora de dos Premios Hipólito Unánue a la mejor edición científica peruana en Medicina y Fisiología: Desadaptación a la Vida en las Grandes Alturas (1995) y El Reto Fisiológico de Vivir en los Andes (2004). También es co-autora de Salud y Minería: El Riesgo del Mal de Montaña Crónico entre Mineros de Cerro de Pasco (1990).
Fue Rectora de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia entre mayo del 2008 a junio del 2017, durante dos periodos, por elección de la Asamblea Universitaria, y Vicerrectora de Investigación de la misma universidad, entre abril del 2004 y abril del 2008. Actualmente, es la presidenta del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica (Concytec), desde julio 2017.
Es Académico de Número de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias y miembro del Colegio de Biólogos del Perú, así como de la Academia Latinoamericana de Ciencias, de la American Physiological Society (Sociedad Americana de Fisiología) y de la International Society for Mountain Medicine (Sociedad Internacional de Medicina de Montaña).
Su trayectoria académica y científica ha sido distinguida en el Perú y en el extranjero. Cabe destacar la distinción de “Caballero de la Legión de Honor”, otorgada por el Gobierno de la República de Francia (2011); la “Orden al Mérito de la Mujer Peruana”, otorgada por el Gobierno del Perú (2012); el PREMIO APEC- Perú a la Mujer Innovadora. Cumbre de la Mujer y la Economía (WES), San Francisco, Ca, USA (2011); y la Medalla “José Tola Pasquel”, por su contribución científica y educativa como Miembro del Centro Interuniversitario de Desarrollo – CINDA de Chile (2017).
Entre los años 2005 y el 2009, integró el comité consultivo del Programa Iberoamericano de Ciencia y Tecnología (CYTED) con sede en España. Actualmente integra diversos directorios, públicos y privados, así como nacionales y extranjeros, entre los que destacan el Consejo Directivo del Consejo Nacional de Educación (CNE), el Sistema Nacional de Evaluación, Acreditación y Certificación de la Calidad Educativa (Sineace) y del Centro de Planeamiento Estratégico Peruano (Ceplan), así como de la Asamblea General de la Asociación Civil Transparencia.
